Dallas, Texas (February 3, 2017) – Nasher Sculpture Center announces Nasher Prize Dialogues: The Public Place of Sculpture, a panel discussion, presented in partnership with Museo Jumex in Mexico City, which will focus on socially-engaged sculpture in various modes, from social practice outright to objects which employ themes of monument and document. The discussion will take place on Thursday, March 16 at 7 pm at Museo Jumex, featuring artists Pedro Reyes (Mexico), Amalia Pica (Argentina), and Sanford Biggers (USA) in conversation with Pablo Leon de la Barra, Nasher Prize juror and the Latin American curator of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative. The discussion will center on the historical role sculpture has played in public spaces and the dynamic and evolving ways it is currently presented, especially in light of the global political climate.
The discussion is part of Nasher Prize Dialogues, the discursive platform of the Nasher Prize, the annual international prize for a living artist in recognition of a body of work that has had an extraordinary impact on the understanding of sculpture. The Dialogues are intended to foster international awareness of sculpture and to stimulate discussion and debate. Programs—including panel discussions, lectures, and symposia—are held in cities around the world on a yearly basis, offering engagement with various audiences and providing myriad perspectives and insight into the ever-expanding field of sculpture.
Previous international Nasher Prize Dialogues programs include Why Sculpture Now? at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, in partnership with the ICA and the Henry Moore Foundation, featuring artists Phyllida Barlow, Michael Dean, and Eva Rothschild, and curators Okwui Enwezor and Jed Morse, moderated by Lisa Le Feuvre of the Henry Moore Institute; and The Work of Sculpture in the Age of Digital Production at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, featuring curators Kasper König and Jed Morse, and artists Rachel de Joode and Bettina Pousttchi in conversation with Jörg Heiser, co-editor of frieze magazine.

Graduate Symposium
March 30, 2017 / 10 am – 4 pm at the Nasher Sculpture Center
Organized by the Nasher Sculpture Center, this symposium offers students a chance to take the Nasher Prize Laureate’s work as inspiration for their own scholarly and creative work. Student presentations and an accompanying publication will expand scholarship on the field of contemporary sculpture and its many forms. The symposium will be moderated by Pavel Pys, Curator of Visual Art at the Walker Art Center. The keynote presentation will be given by French art historian and theorist Nicolas Bourriaud.
