Nasher Sculpture Center Announces The Circle Project

New collaboration with the Nasher Sculpture Center’s Artist Circle, the Nasher Store, and Cera´mica Suro to showcase work of North Texas artists

DALLAS, Texas (February 22, 2018)—The Nasher Sculpture Center announces The Circle Project, an initiative that seeks to highlight the talent of the artists who are part of the Nasher Sculpture Center’s Artist Circle, an affinity group for practicing artists in the north Texas area, through a design partnership with Cera´mica Suro—an established ceramics studio based in Guadalajara, Mexico that is known for its frequent collaborations with artists. Each year, the Nasher will commission an artist from the Artist Circle to design a set of limited edition dinner plates that will be produced by Cera´mica Suro and will debut at the Nasher Store in conjunction with the annual Dallas Art Fair in April. Proceeds from the sale of the plates will go towards enriching Nasher Sculpture Center’s exhibition and education programs, such as the Artist Circle.

The first Circle Project edition will feature the work of Pierre Krause, a self- described “post-lol multimedia thing-maker, exile writer, couch curator, SoundCloud rapper, DJ and full-time freak.” Krause’s work straddles various idioms and forms— from sculpture to paintings to text-based interventions and music. Often carrying a confessional tone, Krause’s work can feel like an honest and lyrical running- monologue, addressing lovers, friends, and political entities. For this commission, Pierre has used the idea of a meal as the genesis for a series of text-based images that are tantalizingly suggestive—words and phrases that tease out ideas of desire, appetite, and consumption. Pierre Krause’s “conceptual_whatever works” have been exhibited in Dallas as well as in New York, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Los Angeles, Mexico and Japan.

A limited edition of the set of four plates, with an accompanying artist-signed certificate, will be available for $1500 in the Nasher Store beginning April 14, 2018. To pre-order, please call 214.242.5110. A launch event celebrating The Circle Project will take place in the Nasher Store on Saturday, April 14 from 3-6 pm with the artist Pierre Krause in attendance.
