Phyllida Barlow

ARTIST / UNITED KINGDOM

Phyllida Barlow has mounted a number of highly acclaimed, daring exhibitions of monumental sculpture. Her recent solo exhibitions include Turner Contemporary, Margate; Kunsthalle Zurich; Tate Britain; Nasher Sculpture Center; Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach; Des Moines Art Center; New Museum, New York; Henry Moore Institute, Leeds. In 2012, she received the Aachen Art Prize, as well as the “Award for the Most Significant Contribution to the Development of Contemporary Art” at The First International Kiev Biennale, Kiev, Ukraine. She was selected as a Royal Academician in 2011, and was also recently appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). She is representing Britain in the 2017 Venice Biennale. 

Huma Bhabha

ARTIST / UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Huma Bhabha lives and works in Poughkeepsie, New York. Bhabha’s figurative sculptures were prominently on view in All the World’s Futures curated by Okwui Enwezor at the Venice Biennale 2015. Bhabha’s work has been the subject of numerous national and international solo exhibitions at such institutions as MoMA P.S.1, Collezione Maramotti, Aspen Art Museum, and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, as well as notable group shows at the Hayward Gallery, London; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York;  Palais de Tokyo, Paris; and the 2010 Whitney Biennial, New York.

Pablo León de la Barra

GUGGENHEIM CURATOR AT LARGE, LATIN AMERICA / BRAZIL 

Mexico City native Pablo León de la Barra is Curator at Large, Latin America at the Salomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York and adjunct curator at MASP, Museu de Arte de São Paulo. He holds a Ph.D. in Histories and Theories from the Architectural Association, London. He previously served as the Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Latin America (2013-2016) and Director of the Casa França-Brasil in Rio de Janeiro (2015-16). León de la Barra has organized or co-organized exhibitions at institutions worldwide including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; MOCAD, Detroit; South London Gallery, London; Kunsthalle Zürich; Museo Tamayo and Museo Jumex, Mexico; TEOR/éTica, San José, Costa Rica; Museo de Arte de Zapopan, Guadalajara; Museu de Arte Moderna, Rio de Janeiro. He was founder and co-curator of the 1st and 2nd Bienal Tropical, San Juan, Puerto Rico (2011 and 2016), co-curator of SITE Santa Fe Biennial, New Mexico (2016) and curator of the Mexican Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale.  

Lynne Cooke

SENIOR CURATOR, NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART, WASHINGTON, D.C. / UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Australian native Lynne Cooke is Senior Curator of Special Projects in Modern Art at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, where she has been since August of 2014. Prior to the NGA, Cooke was the deputy director and chief curator of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. In addition, Cooke has also served as curator for the New York-based Dia Art Foundation from 1991 to 2008; artistic director of the 10th Biennale of Sydney (1994-96); and co-curator of the 1991 Carnegie International at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Art. 

Okwui Enwezor

DIRECTOR, HAUS DER KUNST / GERMANY

Okwui Enwezor is director of Haus der Kunst, Munich. In 2015 he was director of the visual arts for the 56th Venice Biennale. He has also served as artistic director of several other international exhibitions, including Documenta 11 in Kassel, amongst other large-scale exhibitions. His most recent exhibition Postwar: Art Between the Pacific and the Atlantic, 1945-1965 was organized with Katy Siegel and Ulrich Wilmes. He is the former dean of academic affairs and senior vice president of the San Francisco Art Institute, and he has also served as visiting professor at Columbia University, the University of Pittsburgh, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Enwezor was Kirk Varnedoe Visiting Professor at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University in 2012 and Global Distinguished Professor at the Department of Art History at New York University in 2013.

Hou Hanru

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, MAXXI / ITALY 

Hou Hanru is currently the Artistic Director of MAXXI in Rome, Italy. He has curated and co-curated exhibitions such as the 2nd Johannesburg Biennial; Shanghai Biennale; Gwangju Biennale; Venice Biennale; the 2nd Guangzhou Triennial; The 10th Istanbul Biennial; The 10th Biennale de Lyon; The 5th Auckland Triennial; and the 7th Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, as well as numerous exhibitions at MAXXI since he began his tenure there in 2014. He is a consultant for numerous cultural institutions, including the Guggenheim Museum, New York, and frequently contributes to various journals on contemporary art and culture. He also lectures and teaches in numerous international institutions. 

Yuko Hasegawa

CHIEF CURATOR, MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART, TOKYO (MOT) / JAPAN

Yuko Hasegawa is Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2016 - present) and Professor of Graduate School of Global Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts (2016-present). She was a Chief Curator and Founding Artistic Director (1999 - 2006) of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa and Chief Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2006-2016). She is Artistic Director of Inujima Art House Project (2011-present). She was curator of 11th Sharjah Biennial (2013), Co-Curator of 29th São Paulo Biennial (2010), and Artistic Director of the 7th International Istanbul Biennial (2001). She has also served on the jury for the Hugo Boss Prize, Guggenheim Museum (2002) and Hugo Boss Asia Art Award (2017, 2015, 2013);the  Hermes Award, South Korea (2003); and the 48 Esposizione La Biennale di Venezia (1999), among others. 

Alex Potts

ART HISTORIAN / UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Alex Potts is Max Loehr Collegiate Professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He received his Ph.D. in the history of art at the Warburg Institute in London. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles; Ailsa Mellon Bruce Senior Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts, National Gallery of Art, Washington; Slade Lecturer of Fine Art at the University of Oxford; Kirk Varnedoe Visiting Professor, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University; and is currently a Member of the School of Historical Studies, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. 

Nicholas Serota

CHAIRMAN OF ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND / UNITED KINGDOM

Nicholas Serota was Director of Tate since 1988.  He was previously Director of the Whitechapel Art Gallery and of the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford. During his period at Tate, the institution opened Tate St. Ives (1993) and Tate Modern (2000), redefining the Millbank building as Tate Britain (2000).  Nicholas Serota has been a member of the Visual Arts Advisory Committee of the British Council, a Trustee of the Architecture Foundation and a commissioner on the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.  He was a member of the Olympic Delivery Authority, which was responsible for building the Olympic Park in East London for 2012. In June 2017, Serota assumed the role of Chairman of Arts Council London.
